". . . it is just within this fathom-long body, with its perception & intellect, that I declare that there is the cosmos, the origination of the cosmos, the cessation of the cosmos, and the path of practice leading to the cessation of the cosmos."

from the Rohitassa Sutta AN 4.45

The first of the Satipatthanas (Foundations of Mindfulness) is Mindfulness of the Body. As the Buddha emphasizes in the sutta above, all we need to know is within this body. The five practices offered in this First Foundation, with mindfulness of breathing being the most common, are all rich and significant. When these practices become an integral part of our lives and are infused with compassion, our journey toward awakening is deeply enriched. It's important to remember that the goal is not just to practice during the retreat, but to integrate these practices into our daily lives.

In this day of practice, which will be primarily in noble silence, we will explore the practices on the elements, anatomical parts, and various "death" practices. Talks will be offered on how these practices can be integrated into our daily practices and all aspects of our lives. The day will be spacious, mixing formal sitting meditations, movement, dharma talks, and time for questions.
